University Place Unite

There were big plans for the land west of Tacoma along the Narrows waterway. A sprawling college campus and neighborhood was drawn up to house The Puget Sound University. But the financial crisis of 1893 guaranteed one thing for "the university place" - there would be no university.
109 years later, there is still no university, however University Place has grown into a vibrant, diverse community of over 31,000 residents. "U.P." is now home to many unique neighborhoods, beautiful parks, a burgeoning town center district, and Chambers Bay Golf Course, a world-class links-style golf course that will host the 2015 US Open.
The University Place School District is renowned for its achievements in both academics and athletics. The nearly 5,500 student district is still the centerpiece of the community since organizing in 1895.
